Geoffrey Harris began his trainging in Sydney with Isolde Hill and spent three years as a young artist with Opera Australia. He has studied voice production and singing internationally with renowned teachers including Ettore Campogagliani, Clemens Kaiser-Breme and his maestro for the last 17 years Fernando Bandera.

Geoffrey's work has encompassed most of the tenor repertoire. He appears regularly in leading roles in Opera throughout Australia and New Zealand and as a soloist in concert and Oratorio with the various Australian symphony orchestras. He has performed many leading roles in works by 20th century and contemporary composers often involving world or Australian premier performances.

Geoffrey made his debut with Opera Australia as 'Don José' in 'Carmen' while still a member of the Opera Studio training programme and during this period also appeared for the company as 'Beppo' in 'Fra Diavolo', 'Riccardo' in 'Triumph of Honour' and the 'Steuerman' in 'Die Fliegende Hollander' along with various other smaller roles.

At first known for his comic and acting abilities Geoffrey progressed though lighter roles to more robust fare and during the last 10 years has added heavier roles to his repertoire including 'Otello', 'Radames', 'Samson' and 'Calaf'.

For Opera Australia he has sung 'Don José', 'Radames', 'Calaf', 'Alfred' (Die Fledermaus), 'Steuerman', 'Bob Boles' (Peter Grimes), 'Cassio', 'Vitek' (Makropulos Affair), 'Pang', 'Red Whiskers' (Billy Budd).

For Opera New Zealand he has sung 'Calaf', 'Don José', 'Rodolfo'. For Western Australian Opera 'Rodolfo', 'Don José', 'Il Duca', 'Tassillo' (Countess Maritza), 'Duke of Dunstable' (Patience). For State Opera of South Australia his roles have included 'Rodolfo', 'Don José', 'Alfredo' (La Traviata), 'Goro', 'Monostatos' 'Remendado'. With Opera Queensland 'Otello', 'Don José', 'Eisenstein', 'Steuerman', 'Cassio', 'Alfred', 'Remendado'. For Mercury Opera New Zealand 'Don José', 'Des Grieux' (Manon Lescaut). For Auckland Opera 'Don José', 'Goro'.

In keeping with his interest in contemporary and 20th century music he has taken lead roles in a number or word and Australian premier performances including Gillian Whitehead's 'Bride of Fortune' for the 1991 Festival of Perth. 'Chairman Mao' in 'Nixon in China' for the Adelaide Festival of 1992 and 'Roberton' in 'Bitter Calm' which was broadcast on N.Z.B.C TV as the centrepiece of the 1993 New Zealand Festival.

Other Adelaide Festival appearances have included performances in Peggy Glanville-Hicks' 'Transposed Heads', Janaçek's 'Makrapulos Affair' and Shostakovich's 'The Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk' in various Adeladie Festivals.

Previous Australian permiers include 'Pierrot' in Ullman's 'Der Kaiser von Atlantis' for Sydney Conservatorium Opera and 'Flamand' in 'Capriccio' with State Opera of South Australia. Geoff has also sung in Brian Howard's 'Inner Voices' and the role of 'Tom Rakewell' in Stravinsky's 'The Rakes Progress'.

Most recently Geoffrey completed seasons as 'Canio' (Pagilacci) and 'Riccardo' in 'Un Ballo in Maschera' for the emerging Melbourne City Opera.
